June 2026 - Steam Next Fest

Seventeen demos, scored out of 10, in the order I played them.

TL;DR — Highest marks went to Blood Dungeon (9), then PengPong, Kaz, Shroom and Gloom, and Furyball at 8. The demos go offline when the fest closes on June 22. Every Steam link is at the bottom.

PengPong 8 / 10

Fun roguelike with shooting mechanics.

A bullet-hell roguelike mixing pinball and gambling — bounce around and bet your winnings to survive.

→ Steam

Slayblade 6 / 10

Slayblade screenshot

Beyblades are back and I don't think this has a long-lasting appeal to it.

A chill battle-top roguelite — collect and merge 60+ parts and dominate opponents across a Y2K city.

Blood Dungeon 9 / 10

Blood Dungeon screenshot

If Spelunky looked awful in a good way and played weird with bullet-hell elements.

From the Nidhogg developers, a 2D platforming auto-shooter; collect blood, gold, and bones to grow stronger.

→ Steam

Kaz 8 / 10

Kaz screenshot

Roguelike with four movements and hellacious pace do combo. Perfect for pick up and play a quick few rounds.

A minimalist grid-based action roguelike built around fast reactions, psychedelic visuals, and leaderboards.

→ Steam

Echoes of Mystralia 5 / 10

Echoes of Mystralia screenshot

2.5D roguelike that feels clunky and the fighting mechanics feel weak and the leveling up has too many damn trees.

A spellcrafting action ARPG roguelite; craft spells, fight bosses, and unlock new combinations.

→ Steam

Grass Chopper 5 / 10

GrassChopper screenshot

Mid game that I would 100% sink more than 10 hours into. I kept playing the demo expecting more. It's a hack-and-slash but the opponent doesn't fight back, the environment just does.

An incremental action game about swinging a scythe, earning coins, and upgrading to cut deeper.

→ Steam

over the hill 6 / 10

over the hill screenshot

Cozy drive simulator that pairs as a come down from Art of Rally as you climb a mountain and explore.

An offroad exploration sim featuring iconic 60s–80s vehicles, solo or co-op, across scenic trails.

→ Steam

Sineus Arena 6 / 10

Sineus Arena Survivors screenshot

Roguelike with some basebuilding elements but it has tank controls and runs like garbage on the Deck. If it works better in the future, might be upgraded.

A bullet-heaven survivor-like with co-op and tower-defense elements; defend your stronghold and chase leaderboard spots.

→ Steam

Shroom and Gloom 8 / 10

Shroom and Gloom screenshot

First-person roguelike deck builder is a new one. It feels fun and the art style is sick.

A moody first-person roguelike double-deckbuilder full of fungal foes and big combos.

→ Steam

33 Immortals 6 / 10

33 Immortals screenshot

Looks pretty for a co-op hack-and-slash, but it feels sluggish. Curious at how this shapes up, because it looks interesting.

A co-op action roguelike for up to 33 players; battle hordes and giant bosses together.

→ Steam

Mexican Ninja 6 / 10

Mexican Ninja screenshot

Newgrounds humor, Viewtiful Joe graphics for a roguelike sidescrolling beat 'em up. Doesn't feel tight.

A fast 2.5D roguelike beat-'em-up; master combos and Mexican Jutsus to retake Nuevo Tokyo.

→ Steam

Cloudbreaker 5 / 10

Cloudbreaker screenshot

Very slow roguelike that balances being a boring inventory management system.

A roguelite bullet-heaven with inventory management; explore a sky-world and upgrade unique airships.

→ Steam

Wind Runner 4 / 10

Wind Runners screenshot

Pixel-art side-scrolling Ace Combat with roguelike features. Decent game, but I'm just awful at these.

A high-speed bullet-hell dogfighting roguelite against a hostile Realm and its fleets and bosses.

→ Steam

Pathogenic 4 / 10

Pathogenic screenshot

What if you controller the bacteria that is in the first body from the game Pandemic, but it's very very slippery controls the whole time.

A cellular roguelike shooter where you play a pathogen, collecting organelles to evolve against the immune system.

→ Steam

Goobies 2 5 / 10

Goobies 2 screenshot

This is the gateway drug to playing Risk of Rain.

A co-op blob-splattering action game with new Goobies, genetic mutations, and combinable omens.

→ Steam

Furyball: Rogue Revenge 8 / 10

Furyball: Rogue Revenge screenshot

It's like pinball and bullet hell meets roguelike. Some of the more new gameplay I've had recently. Can't tell if it has staying power, but wishlisted it.

A fast-paced action roguelite where your only weapon is a bouncing bullet-ball; survive sport-themed arenas inspired by pinball and grindhouse cinema.

→ Steam

Survivors Guild 7 / 10

Survivors Guild screenshot

What if Vampire Survivors was pixel art and less hectic. Would accidentally put 8 hours into this and say, "it was pretty good."

A survivors-like bullet heaven with 1–4 player online co-op; build powerful loadouts, battle bosses, and unlock new characters.
