Monthly Album Recap - September 2026
Blessed with Carly Rae and other albums this month. Slowly turning into the good part of the release calendar.

New Spins
CZARFACE - Czarface Meets Frankie Pulitzer // Hip Hop
Too much references to Boston sports for my liking. Tom Hardy can do it all. Very good album.
The Afghan Whigs - Soft Control // Alt Rock
Yeah, this one is for the Dads.
Brennan Wedl - Brennan Wedl // Alt Rock
Interesting production moments and has some good hooks. Sounds too much like a bullshit 90s band.
Dogwood Tales - Ever Star in Rockingham County // Alt Country
Kids being raised on the Crutchfield sisters, Wilco, and MJ Lenderman are going to be alright.
Dreamwell - Hymns for the Denial of God // Screamo
No matter what wave of emo exists, there will always be decent to good screamo. Angry kids make good music.
Elanor Moss - The Knife, The Needle // Singer Songwriter
I could see why people would like this, but this just feels so sparse and laid back that I just want to nap in a field before realizing my allergies won’t let me.
The Linda Lindas - GOTTA GET OUT // Post Rock
Oscillates between post-rock, post-punk, and post-fun. Interesting record, but nothing lasts.
Maripool - Rotten Luck // Pop Rock
Relaxed experience that had me second guessing when the next record came on.
Bugland - No Joy // Bedroom Pop
This is a winter album. The vibes are claustrophobic and tight. Enjoyed the layering and reverb. Need to come back to it.
World Record - One Million Ways to Get to the Same Place // DIY Rock
Stripped down emo works sometimes. Other times it's just middling. This is the latter.
Chat Pile - Who Loves the Sun // Metal
It's grimier, it's sicker, it's riffier. It's new Chat Pile!
Graham Hunt - American Pyramid // Milwaukee Rock
Sucker for local music and a bigger sucker of whatever this is. Good vibes, weird album.
Incendiary - Product of New York // Metal
I wanted to say this sounded like nu-metal with edge. So, I think, this just makes it hardcore album?
Asher White - Love Aggregates // Folk Pop
Just some soft boi music. It's wildly listenable, easily forgettable.
Bullseye - Bullseye // Indie Rock
More interesting than Black Keys, less engaging than White Stripes on the Car Commercial index™
Crying Laughing - Talking // IDM
Work music!
Harrison Gordon - BLISS // Pop Punk
Some average pop punk! Voice was grating (could eventually grow on you, I think) and the production was pretty good.
Humeric - No Dancing Allowed // IDM
This is like Skrillex's take on the Crying Laughing album from above. Was more engaging, but at the cost of work. Is that a bad thing?
Carly Rae Jepsen - Day and Night // Pop
Yeah, she knows her lane and fills it perfectly.
Johanna Samuels - Sorry, Kid // Singer Songwriter
Laura Marling cosplay.
Judiciary - Stalagmite Angels // Metal
This EP rips and it made me want to visit more of their music.
SQMice - SQMice // Lounge Pop
Didnt think IDM music could get more pretentious.
This is Lorelei - The Singer in My Band // Indie Rock
Just a good little summer-inspired album that has initial sticking power. Closer to the upbeat sections of Wilco and Ratboys and just hits the spot.
beabadoobee - Pylon // Indie Pop Rock
It wants to be the 90s. It's just boring. These two might be related.
Miley Cyrus - Bass Persuades // Pop
This is decent to good Lady Gaga cosplay
Emma Ruth Rundle - These Killing Times // Post Rock
I think she took the wrong lesson from 90s grunge.
Gilla Band - Pugnello // Art Rock
This is almost like if someone made music of my kids all yelling at the same time into a good rhythm.
Julia Jacklin - The Gem // Singer Songwriter
Aptly named, beautiful album. Always an enjoyable experience.
Tinashe - Popstar // Pop
This was fun, all over the place, but felt cohesive in the overall packaging. Going to take a few listens to appreciate it.
Lizzy McAlpine - Angel // Singer Songwriter
Just the same song coming to the hip coffee shop near you.
Orville Peck - Mule // Country
Im always interested in Orville Peck, and he makes great singles, but his albums seem lacking.
Slow Pulp - Melodie // Alt Rock
I was excited for this. It didnt deliver. Is that on me? Probably, but this still felt lifeless.
Sylvan Esso - Ow // Indie Pop
We were lucky Coffee was released during indie twee heights.
Tove Lo - ESTRUS // Pop
Mind numbing radio pop. But horny.
Blondshell - Violins // Indie Pop
Even in 2012 this would be seen as all filler.
Bullion - Nearly // Indie Pop
Reminds me of early Baths. But not as good.
Smidley - Murphy Horse // Emo
It's like a softer Foxing and I love that as a change up.
M83 - I Wrote You a Letter // Indie Rock
This is just noodling around on a synth wanting to recreate the Drive soundtrack.
Protomartyr - Hotel Usona // Post Rock
Post rock? More like Post Interesting. HEYOOO
Adult DVD - Adult DVD // Alt Rock
This sounds like all those party bands from college where their only goal was to get you to hip thrust.
Godflesh - Decay // Sludge Metal
Haunting and grinding. Nothing in particular sticks out, but as background noise in a dungeon it's very good
Leon Bridges - Happiness Anytime // Neo Soul
Aptly named record. Great time with it. Belongs on chill playlists everywhere.

Re-Spins
Julien Baker - Turn Out the Lights // Singer Songwriter
Stone cold classic. The trio of Turn Out the Lights, Shadowboxing, and Sour Breath are just as beautiful and gut wrenching as they were nine years ago. Best member of boygenius, too.
Brother Bird - Another Year // Singer Songwriter
This still holds up as a lovely little indie rock/pop adjacent album. Reminds me of early Clairo/Snail Mail/etc. with more engaging production

Cantilever Listens
Prosper - Sélavy // French Lounge
Art pop sounds even more pretentious when it's not in English.
Overmono - Pure Devotion // Dance
I always enjoy a decent EDM album, but I never know what song to recommend. It all turns into an enjoyable, but forgettable, blur. This is no different. Fun times, though!
Max Tundra - Parallax Error Beheads You // Electronica
Maximalist sounds. Minimal impact.
LA Priest - Into The Sky // Pop Rock
Had some good synthpop vibes with great vocals. This will be added to my regular list of listening
